Ionix to deliver automatic production line to Boliden Kokkola

Ionix Oy has signed an agreement to deliver a fully-automated sawing and laser hybrid welding line for aluminum cathode refurbishing at Boliden Kokkola Oy, Finland, as a turn-key delivery. Engineering has started in the beginning of March and installation and commissioning at Boliden’s site in Kokkola will start in January 2018. The line refurbishes aluminum cathodes used in zinc production process. The fully automatic refurbishing process has several steps, such as laser-MIG hybrid welding of the cathodes with an 8 kW fiber laser. With its annual production capacity of 315,000 tonnes, Boliden Kokkola is the second largest zinc producer in Europe.
